The Rules
Boys
Bantam (Grades K-2)
- Shot blockers will be used for the season.
- 2 attack, 3 midfielders, 2 defense; or 3 attack, 2 middies,
3 defense; or other breakdown as agreed to by both head
coaches prior to the game.
- Games will usually be on a shortened field.
- No body checking is allowed. Players are not allowed to run
into another player with the intent of putting him on the
ground. Bumping in piles is unavoidable but should be
monitored for aggressiveness.
- Limited stick checking and only with 2 hands on the stick.
- No long defensive shafts (long poles) allowed.
- Sticks may be cut down as needed to better fit the
individual child. There will be no stick check penalties.
- No time serving penalties. Infractions will be addressed by
the on-field Coach/Referee and there will be a change of
possession.
- Games will be 10 minute (running) quarters.
- All participants will have equal playing time and should get
to rotate to play at different positions throughout the game.
- Only 1 coach from each team is allowed on the field during
play. Coaches are not allowed to carry a lacrosse stick or
wear lacrosse gloves while on the field.
- At this age level, the league is most interested in teaching
field awareness, positioning and stick skills.
Boys Lightning (Grades 3-4)
- Goalie will be used all season.
- 3 attack, 3 midfielders, 3 defense, when there are enough
players. Reduce by 1 attack and 1 defense when numbers of
players dictates. The object is to allow more touches per
player.
- Games will sometimes be on a shortened field.
- Games will be 12 minute (running) quarters.
- No coaches are allowed on the field during play of the game.
- No body checking is allowed. Players are not allowed to run
into another player with the intent of putting him on the
ground. Bumping in piles is unavoidable but should be
monitored for aggressiveness.
- Limited stick checking. Any poke check or slap check that
does not make contact with the stick or gloved hand holding
the stick will be considered a slash. All checks must be with
2 hands on the stick.
- No long defensive shafts (long poles) poles allowed.
- Penalties will be enforced by having the player come off the
field and replacing with another player. There will be no man
up/man down. The infracted team will receive a fast break at
the midfield line.
- All players should receive equal playing time without regard
to ability. Although we always want to instill the desire to
play hard, winning is not the "primary concern" for the
Lightning Division. Learning the game and having fun while
playing it will help us mold these children into better
athletes and lacrosse players.
- At this age level, the league is most interested in teaching
field awareness, positioning and stick skills.
Boys
Junior (Grades 5-6)
- Goalie is used at all times.
- 3 attack, 3 midfielders, 3 defense.
- Full length field will be used.
- Games will be 13 minute (running) quarters.
- Coaches must keep a scorebook with player names, numbers,
goals and penalty time, at a minimum.
- Maximum of 4 long poles (up to 60”) are allowed in the game
at any one time.
- Limited body checking is allowed. All hitting will be
limited to the one step rule, which is that if a player takes
more then one step to hit a player after he has released the
ball from his stick, it will be considered an illegal body
check. Essentially, if a player can avoid hitting, he should.
- Stick checking is allowed; however, any poke check or slap
check that does not make contact with the stick or gloved hand
holding the stick will be considered a slash. Both hands must
be on the stick when checking an opponent. There are no
one-handed stick checks allowed.
- Penalty time will be served. 30-second penalties will be
extended to 45 seconds to compensate for a running time clock,
and 60-second penalties will become 90 seconds.
- Penalty time will not commence until the referee signals the
start of play after the infraction.
- All players should receive a fair amount of playing time
based on ability and attendance at practices. Although we
always want to instill the desire to play hard, good
sportsmanship is the primary goal in the Junior division and
winning is considered secondary. Learning the game and having
fun while playing it will help us mold these children into
better athletes and lacrosse players.
Boys Senior (Grades 7-8)
- Goalie is used at all times.
- 3 attack, 3 midfielders, 3 defense.

goals and penalty time, at a minimum.
- Maximum of 4 long poles (up to 72”) are allowed in the game
at any one time.

limited to the one step rule, which is that if a player takes

ball from his stick, it will be considered an illegal body
